Theatre Arts Teacher

Lausanne Collegiate School is seeking a dynamic, creative, and student-centered Middle School Theatre Arts Teacher to join our innovative faculty team. This individual will lead a robust theatre arts program for students in Grades 5–8, fostering creativity, collaboration, confidence, and a love for performance. The ideal candidate will be passionate about theatre education, skilled in a variety of performance techniques, and committed to integrating theatrical learning into the broader International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP).

This role includes teaching Theatre Arts courses, directing middle school productions, and collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to support a vibrant and inclusive arts culture. The teacher will contribute to student growth both on and off the stage while maintaining high expectations for artistic challenge and personal development. The teacher will also serve as an advisor to middle school students. 

Lausanne Collegiate School is a coeducational, college preparatory, PK2 (age 2) through 12th grade International Baccalaureate World School located in Memphis, Tennessee whose student body represents 77 different countries. Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a positive, safe, and collaborative classroom and rehearsal environment
  • Teach Theatre Arts courses for grades 5–8, focusing on acting, ensemble work, improvisation, stagecraft, script analysis, and production design
  • Direct and produce at least one annual middle school production
  • Create inclusive classroom experiences that reflect a variety of cultural perspectives, stories, and performance styles
  • Integrate IB MYP frameworks into instruction, including the development of unit plans and assessment tasks aligned with MYP arts criteria
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues about student progress and program initiatives
  • Collaborate with faculty and participate in department and school-wide events and initiatives
  • Support student learning beyond the classroom through coaching, advisory, or club leadership as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, Performing Arts, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in theatre arts (preferably in a middle school setting)
  • Experience directing student theatrical productions
  • Skills in technical theatre, lighting, sound, or design
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies
  • Middle Years Programme (MYP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) experience preferred
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for adolescent students
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust-based relationships with students, parents, and faculty
  • Ability to adapt quickly and problem-solve in a dynamic school setting
