Summary

• A Doula provides continuous, non-medical support to expectant parents before, during, and after childbirth.
• The Doula's role is to empower and assist the birthing person and their partner in making informed decisions and having a positive childbirth experience.
• Doulas work collaboratively with healthcare providers and can offer emotional and physical comfort measures during labor and the postpartum period.

Responsibilities

• Advocates for the birthing person's wishes and preferences during labor and childbirth.
• Provide prenatal doula support, including conducting home visits for patients as needed.
• Provides evidence-based information about childbirth options, procedures, and pain management techniques.
• Offers support and guidance to the family during the immediate postpartum period, including breastfeeding assistance, newborn care, emotional support and compliance with post discharge care.
• Maintains records of interactions with clients, including birth outcomes and postpartum support provided.
• Works alongside healthcare providers, nurses, and midwives to create a cohesive and supportive birthing team.
• Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education

High school diploma is required.
